As you can see from the above photos, taken by me when I visited POLANIEC with Joan, there is virtually no evidence of the centuries of Jewish presence & the lives they lived for years in POLIANEC or for much of POLAND

POLANIEC SYNAGOGUE

Following various wars in the area, POLAND was partitioned three times as follows;

Firstly in 1772, then in 1793, & finally 1795, when POLAND ceased to exist as a sovereign state, until following the RUSSIAN Revolution & the resulting Civil War it regained full independence on 3/NOV/1918 after 123 years. The 1939 division of POLAND between Germany and the Soviet Union pursuant to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact resulted in many Jews falling into the hands of the NAZIS.

The main effect of the first three partitions was that the GARBER Family were classed at various times as Citizens of the HAPSBURG EMPIRE, & later in 1795 they became AUSTRIAN Citizens. The area which had been POLAND & UKRAINE that was taken over by the HAPSBURG’S became a Royal Province called GALICIA & the Jews were called GALITZIANERS & spoke Yiddish.

You could change your nationality quicker than changing your shoes, & without moving an inch.
