Levi ZAGOFSKY had at least a Brother & Sister Born in SEJNY. Their Parents Wolf ZAGOFSKY Born about 1796 Married Chajka MICHLOWICZ 2/JUN/1818 in SEJNY.

Wolf & his younger Brother Mowsa were Children of Leib ZAGOFSKY & his Wife Malka Gitla (Surname Unknown)

Lieb’s Parents were Dawid ZAGOFSKY born about 1753 all events in SEJNY

Dawid ZAGOFSKI who is the earliest traced member of this family, was born before 1753. Nothing further is known about him.

According to family tradition, the ZAGOWSKI family took its name from a place called ZAGON. There is a village with that name in northern POLAND, but it is about 70 miles from SEJNY, where Dawid's sons lived. A more likely ancestral village of this family is ZAGARY, which is only 3.5 miles from SEJNY, quite close to the LITHUANIAN border. There are also three villages 20-30 miles away, across the border in LITHUANIA, called ZAGARIAL. When that area was considered part of POLAND, the names of those villages were spelled ZEGARY, so any one of them could have been the ancestral village of the ZAGOWSKI family.
